Honored to be featured as one of ten creatives, from around the world, by the German clothing brand CLOSED. The project allowed for me to explore Berlin, see tons of art, wear stellar clothes and meet many inspiring people!

About the project:
The X is an ongoing campaign of fashion label Closed that celebrates individualism and variety, creativity and location. Ten innovators in ten cities around the world comprise the talent pool for this debut campaign. Real people leading real lives in the creative industries – most of whom have relocated to another urban centre: e.g. a French film maker, now living in Athens and an Italian gallery owner based out of Barcelona. Itinerant photographers, bloggers and artists.

They are: Julia Knolle – Fashion Blogger, lesmads.de (Berlin) / Damaris Drummond – performance artist (LA) / Tim Barber – Photographer, Photo Editor, Curator (NYC) / Emi Kameoka – Journalist, Vogue Hommes Japan (Tokyo) / Paolo Maistri – Artist, Designer, Promoter (Barcelona) / Alban Adam – Writer, PR, Communication Consultant (Paris) / Marcelo Burlon – Event Manager, Editor, DJ (Milan) / Maxi Leoussis – Film maker (Athens) / Ralf Ziervogel – Artist (Berlin) / Jethro Cave & Sophie Jaggard Willing – Musician, Actress, Models (London).

All share mutual characteristics in their adoption of contemporary technology to enhance their individual lifestyles. Each is recognized for their strength of character and unique artistic output. The X collects this group of leading edge innovators in a series of portraits and offer insight into their worlds. The campaign has its own website and update itself regularly. All of The X individuals have a Leica camera with GPS tracking to monitor their movements. Viewers can follow their latest work, activities in each host city and travels via the dedicated online site. Each of the individuals will be represented in a 360° campaign that involves print media, online, retail and POS signage.

Maypole: A Neo-Folk Pagan Celebration

May 1st, 2010, 5:00pm

Petrosino Square in SoHo Kenmare St. between Lafayette St. & Cleveland St.

New York, New York- On May 1st, 2010 artists Maria Kozak and Damaris Drummond will stage a Maypole Celebration in Petrosino Square in SoHo. The ceremony commences at 5pm and features original works, costume design, and performances from a diverse ensemble of female artists. A pagan ode to fertility and the rites of spring, the Maypole dance dates back centuries. This performance juxtaposes the ancient with the modern, reinterpreting it in a contemporary urban context. Wearing sheer, pagan dresses designed by Carolyne Cass evoking the archetypal nymph, each round of dancing will be choreographed to produce a transformative sculpture as the ribbons wrap and unravel around the pole.

Sponsored by RH Gallery, Vita Coco, and Eskayel, the event will be accompanied by violinist Emily Adams and the a cappella stylings of Mass Transit, and feature performances by,Shanan Campanaro, Carolyne Cass, Julia Colevita,, Simon Frazier, Evy Gonzalas, Rebecca Heidenberg, Tracey Langfitt, Caitlin MacQueen, Panni Malek, and Jeanine Rogers.

Damaris Drummond is a performance artist who navigates the worlds of love, fantasy and mysticism. Exploring the interaction of fine art and new media, Drummond has performed at Red Rocks Amphitheater, The Denver Art Museum, The Brucennial 2009-10 and Dactyl Foundation. Drummond’s work sublimates personal experience and whimsy into live happenings and video work. Song, spoken word, death-defying feats and projection are often part of her performances.

Maria Kozak is a naturalist and painter who divides her time between Brooklyn and the East End. Her most recent shows were at the Lost Horse Gallery in Reykjavik, Iceland and the FoCi show during Miami Art Basel. She is one of the founders of Foolsgold Arts, a traveling exhibition that combines nature conservancy and visual art. Her work is satirical, mostly narrative with a focus on nature and the human condition.

I love it, I mean I love the stupide faces you make, I could’nt stop looking at them. The f*ck how many films did you make? Even when they did’nt take longer than 10 seconds, it took me 2 hours to see them all…
This beautiful, sad, sophisticated face, tripping like a narcist, exploring new ways, you will be famous, believe me…

Amsterdam”

So great to get feedback from the general populous—I actually told someone last night I would go to Amsterdam TODAY, if given the choice. Maybe this fellow has taken me there- in spirit–>spiritually. LOVE the broken English, the photo too. So 365 Faces.
