BRUCEFORMA 2010

I am pleased to announce a performance in correlation with The Bruce High Quality Foundation. The piece is entitled “Nest” and will be shown at 7 PM the evening of February 27th 2010.

“I think the Brucennial is like—in the life of the people—it’s like an anniversary in the life of people. The people, they need moments to celebrate themselves and that’s what a Brucennial is. The Brucennial happens every two years, or really, you know, whenever we feel like it, and it’s a moment of celebration of the history of the people—of the reason why the people exist, of the nature of the people. Again, it’s like a person. If not there would be a flux of time without an interruption and I think that as people, people are live entities and they need to have some moments where they recognize this liveliness of their existence.”

SoHo: The Bruce High Quality Foundation is pleased to announce the opening of The BRUCENNIAL 2010: Miseducation on February 25th at 6pm. BRUCEFORMA:  FEB 27, 6PM – MIDNIGHT

Since its founding, the BRUCENNIAL has evolved into The Bruce High Quality Foundation’s signature public program, as well as the most important survey of contemporary art in the world ever. Following the triumphant successes of BRUCENNIAL08: Doing it Again (Bushwick) and BRUCENNIAL09: Smithumenta (Carol Gardens), BRUCENNIAL2010: Miseducation brings together 420 artists from 911 countries working in 666 discrete disciplines to reclaim education as part of an artist’s ongoing practice beyond the principals of any one institution or experience.

The BRUCENNIAL will be housed at 350 West Broadway. Additionally, BHQFU projects will be on view at RECESS at 41 Grand Street.

The BRUCENNIAL is presented by The Bruce High Quality Foundation in collaboration with Vito Schnabel. 350 West Broadway is provided courtesy of Aby Rosen.

Denver Forever

My friend, Mark Sink, recently had a show in Denver and my work/reliquaries of my existence there seem to be on display.  Illiterate Magazine put it on, it seems like they are doing a lot of decent things there.

One more inspiring short

As time falls away from me and deadlines loom I am reminded to distract myself. Procrastination always wins. This short video is beautifully shot and the soundtrack is so ominous. Love the little girl’s spindly legs swimming in her baby-doll dress. The fimo-like smiling face of the pencil is my least favorite part.

A friend turned me towards this short animation. Seems to ring true…

BOFFO NY & Yours Truly

My, oh my, I am at it again.

At 18 years, I had never been in love, never even had a boyfriend, and never thought any of this would change…

Eliciting the wistful tears of a naïve teenager, I will channel 16, 17 and 18 year-old Damaris for my performance piece this Saturday. Come watch me write out my super-top-secret-lovey-dovey journal entries from high school.

“I can feel you, I know you exist. You flow through my veins, live in my chest…”- Just a snippet.

Ever seen a girl in a nightgown on a 30 ft ladder writing in lipstick on windowpanes? I am defying impending death while speaking from my teenage heart. Come September 19th and check it out.

Dear Friends,
You are invited to attend the grand opening of Objective Affection, presented by BOFFO with directors/curators Faris Al-Shathir and Gregory Sparks.  Objective Affection is an exhibition concerned with the influence of objects in contemporary culture, showcasing over 90 artists and designers in a 14,000 sq ft. former Jehovah’s Witness Bible Printing Factory on the waterfront in Brooklyn Heights.

PERFORM Williamsburg

Hi All,
I am showing my world-renowned video experiment this Sunday—365 Faces!

365 Faces took me exactly a year to complete. As an act of artistic contrition, I uploaded a short video clip of myself each and everyday of 2008. These clips are meant to showcase the wide array of expressions and emotions my face is capable of.

And here comes the final product: an actual live auction of 5 selected Damarisland clips (you yourself can actually OWN a limited edition Damarisland facial expression). I have hired a celebrity to be the auctioneer: the one, the only Arthur Francisco will be heading up the bidding!

I am asking audience members to forfeit their insubstantial, monetary currency and to bid using the “Universal Currency of Approval” aka “The High-Five”. Be ready for heads to roll.

Do come out and support me and PERFORM Williamsburg,
