Two Loops and a V

A performance piece symbiotically existing within the confines of a video narration. A woman unravels: her hurt stems from a need for affection and belonging-- the want of want. Working through her heartbreak she weaves her own cathartic web. Ultimately, the girl takes solace in the emotional commonalities that bind humans from one to the next. “Two loops and a v” refers to a fundamental knitting technique, but in this performance the process is transformed into a corporeal language that communicates through the creation of hearts from a piece of twine. Pulling on the tradition of women convening and creating handcraft in groups, Two Loops and a V, references supportive communities that quilting, knitting, and wool-spinning circles provide. The women building these hearts on the walls, windows and floors of the space, echo the video piece and offer the protagonist allegiance. The performance forces the audience to interact by restricting movement in a ever changing and evolving web of yarn.
